2019-2020 Summer Reading Requirement
*Leaning Support Students*
The more students read, the better readers and writers they become. Reading is also the most powerful tool available for building vocabulary and improving comprehension.
Students going into 8th, 9th and 10th grade in the fall are REQUIRED to read an AR book over the summer. They must also take an AR test. This can be scheduled during the summer or completed when they return to school. Please help remind your child to read their book prior to the start of the school year.
Students entering 8th & 9th grade:
- Read one book of your choice. The book may be at your reading level and NOT grade level. Please email Ms. Lawrence or contact her on the Remind App if you’d like to know your child’s reading level.
- Try and find a book that is at least 100 pages, but this is not required.
- If you’re curious about the level of a book, you can search it’s level on arbookfind.com
Students entering 10th grade:
Academic English – Read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
- The AR quiz number is 533.
- There is an audio version on YouTube. If listening, students should be following along in a book.
- The following is a virtual copy of the text if you are unable to attain a copy of the book
AR Requirements for All Grades:
- Accelerated Reader practice tests may be taken between June 6 or July 31. You may also take your test after August 16.
- You must schedule an appointment to take your test. Please call the office at 744-8544.
- Reports do not need to be printed.
- If students do not wish to take your test during the summer, they will be required to take the test when school begins
